Keep Cleveland Rockin'Proposed ordinance 347-11 in the city of Cleveland, states in no uncertain terms that any entertainment venue; that's bars, restaurants, taverns, concert halls, coffee houses, etc. in a local retail district (which is pretty much all of them) may have not have live entertainment beyond unamplified acoustic instruments, or any other entertainment that exceeds the volume of unamplified acoustic instruments. That means bands, dj's, jukeboxes, even the radio, cannot exceed this volume. Can you imagine being in a dance club where a few people conversing at casual levels could drown out the music? Can you imagine seeing a rock band at your favorite Cleveland venue, with absolutely no amplification? No amps, no microphones, just totally unplugged music that could be drowned out by the sound of people moving barstools and serving drinks? Who would go see that? Who would go to a dance club like that? Who would put money in a jukebox that couldn't be heard at the end of the bar? This could KILL the entertainment industry in Cleveland. When people can't enjoy themselves, they stop going out. When they don't go out, the entertainment venues close. When the bars, clubs, and others close, it puts a business owners out of business, and puts bartenders, waitstaff, bands, dj's, cooks, barbacks, bouncers, all out of their jobs. Not to mention, it has very dire implications for the food and beverage distributors that supply these businesses. It also eliminates the tax revenue supplied to the city by these businesses, and puts our town further in the dark. We are all poorer for it. Don't we have enough unemployment in Cleveland already? Isn't this the city that rock built? We have one of the fastest growing, and most vibrant and diverse live music scenes in the country right now. It has the potential to put Cleveland in the national spotlight in the near future, and solidify our place as the rock and roll capital of the world forever. But we can't get it done if we allow legislation that puts the clamps on everything good this city's entertainment scene has going for it. Join this page, and spread the word. Tell city government that we will not tolerate legislation the likes of proposed ordinance 347-11. Just say NO to "The Footloose Act".
